The history of Expedit is more than just the story of a company that is now Scandinavia’s largest supplier of shopfittings for the retail sector. It is also the history of the development of the retail sector from traditional grocer’s shops to today’s modern self-service stores.
The Expedit adventure started in Denmark in 1952 – the infancy of self-service – when the company founder Elvin Petersen produced the first wire rack for a grocer’s shop in the small Danish town of Hadsten. The name, the Expedit rack, comes from the Danish word meaning ‘to serve’ – ekspedere.
Since 1952, Expedit’s product range has grown as the concept of self-service has increasingly taken hold. However, one thing has never changed. Expedit has always been at the forefront of the development of high-quality shopfittings and shopping trolleys. Today, Expedit develops, produces and supplies turnkey store solutions for the retail sector throughout Scandinavia. Expedit is also happy to follow customers into new markets all over the world.
The Expedit Group is still headquartered in Hadsten, Denmark. But Expedit has grown from being a supplier to the local grocer’s shop into a market leader in Scandinavia with companies in Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland.
